Drum sander - The 8 Machines You Need To Improve Your Cabinet Shop

Drum sander

No matter how good you are with a hand sander, a drum sander will always save you time.

Drum sanders are large machines with a fixed base, designed to produce a smooth finish on wood. They have a single or dual drum mounted horizontally over a moving belt.

There are two types of drum sanders: closed drum and open drum.

※ Closed drum sanders are mounted on four pillars and lack the ability to reverse the stock. Because of this, they are often larger in size and for industrial use.

※ Open drum sanders have the drum suspended over the moving belt, which allows you to double the width of stock you can sand.

You'll want a sander with a capacity of at least 32" for cabinets. This size will enable you to sand all end panels and cabinet doors, as well as most base cabinet face frames. You'll also be able to sand flat trim, baseboard, and cabinet door rails and stiles.
